Emergency medical care
|Organisation||Birmingham Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust|
We are currently the UK's second largest and busiest Children's Emergency Department, helping more than 55,000 children every year.
Children come with many different conditions and illnesses. Doctors, nurses and play specialists work together to make sure they are given the best possible care.
Children are assessed by a nurse in a dedicated assessment area. You can wait in a bright and welcoming waiting area, developed to meet the needs of the wide and diverse range of infants, children and young people who use this department.
You may be cared for in either our minor injury area; cubicles in the main department; or, if referred by a GP, in the dedicated Clinical Decision Unit.
We can also monitor children in our six-bed Observation Unit.
