ARTS & CULTURE: Women of Yardley Unite! (WOYU+)
|Organisation||Arts In The Yard | the Yardley Arts Forum|
Stechford Baptist Church, 73 Victoria Road
Women of Yardley Unite! (WOYU+) is a women’s empowerment programme, a series of free creative sessions led by different professional artists. We use creativity to develop skills, build confidence and form local support networks and friendships.
We facilitate 2 arts & craft workshops per month, alternate by the model of artist-led and participant-led. All workshops are free for participants to attend with all materials provided. Light refreshment will also be provided.
For each session, we explore different art forms; hence we commission various artists for specific skill set and expertise. All participants are given the opportunity to lead their session, share their crafting skill and project ideas as they wish. Staffs will be providing mentorship and support for participants that want to take on the leading role. We embrace the co-design model by considering wishes and feedbacks from participants continuously and let their needs and interest to decide the type of craft that we do as the workshop develop.
There are private Facebook group and WhatsApp group dedicated to the participants. They can choose to join and use it as the platforms to showcase their artworks, give peer support or have a friendly chat in their own time.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: During the COVID restriction period, We now deliver a monthly craft pack direct to participants homes and create interactive videos to teach and inspire. Please use the link below to the sample video:
Women are also supported via a closed Facebook group and a very active WhatsApp group.
We currently do not have a definite date to reopen our face to face activities yet, it is subject to circumstance and government guideline.
