What are short breaks?
Short Breaks are a range of mainly non-residential community services for disabled children and young people which enhance their lives, promote their independence and support their families. Short breaks are designed to be fun and to involve the children and young people in activities they enjoy.

Range of Barnardo’s short break supports
-The short break supports provided by Barnardo’s include the following:
-Overnight care for children in approved carers’ homes
-Outreach workers assisting children’s inclusion in community leisure activities
-Befriending and mentoring
-Holiday leisure and activity programmes
-After school and Saturday clubs
-Youth groups
-Residential short breaks
-Residential holidays
-Support for parents or carers
-Support for siblings
-Information, advice and training for parents and other service providers
-Behaviour support
